The town of Newton was originally known as Quanneapague and covers an area of 60 square miles. It is one of the larger towns in Fairfield County. Newton is the site of the famous Fairfield Hills Mental Hospital, which is considered by some to be haunted. Many ghost hunters visit the mental hospital each year.
