The WorkPlace gets grant to assist unemployed in our area
"The Wal-Mart Foundation has just awarded a grant to The WorkPlace on behalf of the CT-NY Talent for Growth Region. Our proposal was one of only seven selected nationally under Wal-Mart’s “America Works” initiative. This was an invitation only competitive process.
With the $500,000 award (over 2 years), we will work with partners to expand the capacity of the One-Stops operated under the region’s three workforce investment boards to assist dislocated workers, adults, and at-risk youth in preparing for careers in the growth areas of Healthcare and Green.
Key activities include hiring “Career Coaches” for Healthcare and Green who will provide One-Stop customers with in-depth knowledge of the opportunities in these areas. They will train One-Stop staff to build the base of knowledge, and will create regional resource guides for a new career and employment Portal. Additional training dollars will be leveraged through federal and state resources. Businesses will connect to the project in several important ways, including a new e-mentorship program, job shadowing, and internships.
In this exciting initiative, The WorkPlace, Inc. will work closely with outstanding partners who have been active collaborators in the CT-NY Talent for Growth regional initiative: Westchester/Putnam Workforce Investment Board; Yonkers Workforce Investment Board; Career Resources, Inc.; Westchester Community College; Norwalk Community College; and The Business Council of Fairfield County."
