Laid off professionals in the financial services sector will soon have a new resource to tap into career help. The Workplace, a free resource for Connecticut job seekers sent the following announcement today.
Our Tri-State National Emergency Grant (NEG ) proposal has been approved. Connecticut, New York and New Jersey collaborated and focused this proposal on job loses in the financial activity sector of the workforce.
Most financial sector job loses have been in our region. We began working with our partners on this proposal back in October and it was formally submitted in early November. We have had greater job loses in this sector since then. This NEG is open ended so we can add job loses that occured after the filing and future ones without a new application process.
We will open a new job center in Stamford which will include an out placement facility to serve our professional customers. We will also link the new center to our Community esource Program which offers family support services that can help sustain families during long periods without work.
Our customer first approach continues. The WorkPlace should receive at least $ 2.2 million to serve the nearly 400 workers that were included in this proposal. My commendations to our new Congressman Jim Himes for helping to free up this proposal which was stalled in transition.
